Welcome to July and the rains that grows our crops. While summer is blazing hot and clammy in UK, it is wet, flood-filled and sweetly cool in Nigeria. We all should shout hurraah! It is July with gratitude. Anyway, Prindex Properties is singing it in a sing-along with our customers.
Well, we can not help boasting in every post because we considered the rains, aesthetics and comfort in our homes. We understand what it means to have a sanctuary; far from the madding crowd actually. Let us take a paragraph’s break from patting our own backs and share a line or two about the weather.
First, it is not to complain about the rains being too much because this is the way of the rains in July. In fact the rains gradually start in March and begin to increase in April and in May some parts of the country have three days of continuous rain. And by June, the rain comes in torrents. Considering that Lagos is congested and the drains are clogged, here are a few tips that we would run through July.
First, keep warm and dry by having a jacket or cardigan in your bag or on you all the time. Use a wool cap too when you can and have a comb in your bag to smooth out your hair. To keep dry, use a raincoat or an umbrella. Do not think the distance between you and your car has no need of these because it is unhealthy. Yes, you can get severe cold and fever from a few drops of rain on your head and body.
Yes, we know you are not salt and you would not melt but you do not want to catch a flu. Running nose, headache, fever, cough, loss of appetite, the works can come with a few seconds of rain. Pay attention to how many people around you are coughing and sniveling and make a point not to join them.
Finally for today, use your nose masks to protect yourself from contracting the flu Remember that in this part of the world, malaria can join the flu and one can have it worse with hospitalization.
So while we celebrate the yield of our farms and the sweet coolness of the weather, let us remember to keep warm and healthy. And stay indoors except when it is absolutely necessary More about this next edition. Happy July. Drink plenty of tea and take more warm water or room temperature drinks.
